Kim C

Milwaukee, Wisconsin | Helping

When Gov. Tony Evers of Wisconsin first issued the Safer-at-Home order requiring all public and private K-12 schools closed on March 25th, schools and teachers were scrambling to figure out how to teach, and more importantly reach, scores of students quickly.

Like most teachers, Kim C., a middle-school math teacher, had to envision how best to provide a virtual classroom. Using a whiteboard propped up on her kitchen counter to replace her Smartboard, a flexible selfie stick so she could position and focus the camera on schoolwork during daily Google Meet conferences with students, and trying figure out this new way of teaching and learning keeps each day filled with challenges. Kim designed lesson plans, produced videos, figured out technology and a schedule that would allow students time to adapt in their new normal. Keeping students virtually engaged and learning while remotely collaborating with other teachers and reaching out to students and families struggling in this new and unexpected situation is how teachers are doing their part to keep our world moving forward during this crisis. Thank you!
