The Teachers and Staff at Aquinas Academy

Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin | Helping

A week before Wisconsin’s Safer at Home order went into effect, the team at Aquinas Academy in Menomonee Falls began making the difficult decisions that every school needed to make quickly.

As an Independent Catholic Grade School with a classical curriculum, technology use had been limited. But within one working day, middle school classes had their first lessons online, with teachers rapidly adjusting their teaching style while learning new technology. They were ready for what was to come.

Each day now begins with a talk from the principal, then classes are held on a fixed schedule. Aquinas built in ‘Friday catch up day’ for families to help them manage the workload.

This innovation to the schedule allows parents to plan their week and supports students in completing assignments -- reducing stress in the home and promoting a healthy school/work balance.

Schools across the county have made impossible transitions in unreasonable amounts of time, and we give a “shout out” to recognize the teams at schools everywhere as FrontLine heroes. Virtual classes are helping students connect socially, providing daily routine, and ensure the continuation of learning.
